Our Annual Symposium, since its inception in 1988, has been a wonderful platform for key stakeholders to deliberate and proffer workable solutions to issues affecting the Nigerian population, Africa and the world at large. The Symposium has attracted, as its speakers, eminent personalities who have achieved worldwide acclaim in their field of knowledge, key political officeholders and policy makers etc. Notable among these are Professor William Brieger [Professor, Health Systems Program, Department of International Health, The John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, United States of America], Professor Oyewale Tomori [Professor of Virology and Past President, Nigerian Academy of Sciences], Professor Adenike Grange [Professor of Paediatrics and Past Minister of Health, Federal Republic of Nigeria], late Professor Babatunde Osotimehin [Past United Nations Under-secretary General and Executive Director of United Nations Population Fund, Past Minister of Health, Federal Republic of Nigeria].
The 2023 Annual Symposium and Journal launch had another set of great speakers from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan Professor A. O. Malomo, a Consultant Neurosurgeon who spoke on “The Ethical Implications off Neuroscientific Research on Mental Health”, Professor O. M. Owolabi, a consultant neurologist who spoke on the “Crossroads Between Mental Health and Neuroscience in Nigeria”, and Dr. J. O. Abdulmalik, a consultant psychiatrist. Dr. Abdulmalik’s topic was “Neuroplasticity and Mental Health”.
The 51st symposium held on the 24th of May, 2023 at the College Auditorium, Osuntokun Auditorium, UCH, Ibadan with the Chairman of the day in attendance, Emeritus Prof. Oluwole Akande, the Foundation Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan; and the host, in person of, Prof. O. O. Omigbodun, the Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, and Prof. A. O. Omigbodun, the Board Chairman of the DOKITA Editorial Board.
